Given on-the-job training in conjunction with the acquisition of requisite knowledge and skills, the Coder Trainee is primarily responsible for performing CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding from appropriate source documents in accordance with all UFHP, B/AR and department standards related to billing protocols and compliance. The coder is also responsible for communicating with physicians and other staff regarding documentation, billing and coding and for providing feedback to physicians regarding billing practices. The coder may participate with practice management in the oversight of certain practice billing activities as in certain billing follow-up activities. The coder is responsible for performing various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions and, on an as-needed basis, may be required to perform other tasks.
Job Opening Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent.
CCS or CPC certification preferred; must be obtained within one year of employment.
Knowledge of medical terminology required and knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred.
CCS or CPC certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
