Greater Gainesville Chamber to honor Veterans at inaugural luncheon

The Greater Gainesville Chamber will be honoring our community veterans at the Chamber’s first annual Veteran’s Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The event will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on 4100 NW 53rdStreet. The presenting sponsor of the event will be VyStar Credit Union, and proceeds from the event will benefit the Fisher House Foundation.


The event will include awards for local veterans and stewards who provide services to those who served in the military, as well as a keynote from Randy Dexter, Director of the K9s for Warriors Gold Family Campus. This event was created in partnership between the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce, Veterans Health Services, and Alachua County Veteran Services.

“We are very excited to recognize our veterans,” Greater Gainesville Chamber CEO Eric Godet said. “Freedom comes with a price. Our veterans dedicate their lives to protect our freedoms, and it is a great privilege to honor them for their service.”

“I’m honored to speak at the inaugural Veterans Appreciation Luncheon, and I thank the Greater Gainesville Chamber for allowing me the opportunity to share my story as well as those of many of my fellow servicemen,” Dexter said.


Awards given out will include:

Veteran Academic Achievements - Includes the accomplishments and achievements of non-traditional students

Citizenship Award - Veterans who are making a positive impact in our community.

Impact Award - Outstanding Employee in Veterans services. (This can be awarded to a citizen or non-veteran)

Veteran Educators - Those that have served and are now continuing to serve the greater good by educating our youth (K-12)

Veteran Innovators and Entrepreneurs - A Veteran who has successfully built their own company or made innovative impacts in the start-up world.

Corporate sponsors for the event include Trulieve and Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
