SUMMARY

This is advanced technical work in Power Systems Revenue Metering activities. Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. NATURE OF WORK

Advanced technical work in Power Systems Revenue Metering activities.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS

Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory responsibility and from lower classes by its advanced technical skills.

EXAMPLES OF WORK**

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Tests, calibrates, installs, and maintains revenue metering equipment.

Confirms proper meter connections using varied test equipment.

Works with phasor diagrams. Mathematically solves watt, variation, and power factor quantities.

Troubleshoots electro-mechanical, solid state, and digital equipment used in the metering area.

Performs phase angle tests on electric meter installations.

Performs specification checks and calibrations of test equipment including digital multimeters, analog volt-amp meters, and applicable transducers.

Works with computer based records system.

Reads mechanical and electronic type demand meters and recorders.

Operates various programmer readers used in electronic metering.

Performs electric connect turn-on and disconnect turn-off activities as required.

Installs, inspects, tests, calibrates, and maintains residential gas measurement meters.

Assists in routine gas meter change-out program.

Works in accordance with safety rules and regulations.

Attends work on continuous and regular basis.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides training and instruction to subordinates.

Required to respond under emergency conditions.

May be required to transport, mix, handle or use hazardous materials (other than cans of gasoline, batteries, pumping fuel or access to normal janitorial cleaning materials) or may be responsible for facilities or equipment carrying current, fluids or gas that could endanger the public or other employees.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and completion of a college level approved training program or approved apprenticeship program for Measurement Technicians, and two (2) years experience in Electric Metering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, which provide the required knowledge, ability, and skills.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Valid Florida Driver’s License required. 

NOTES

Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to perform essential functions. 

Work requires performing duties at high elevations. 

Work may require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals. 

Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions. 

Work at heights of over 100 feet on open grating or from aerial devices required. 

Work involves exposure to high voltage.

SELECTION FACTORS

Thorough knowledge of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) electrical theory.

Thorough knowledge of metering applicable to power system metering.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and accident prevention methods in assigned area of responsibility.

Knowledge of procedures followed in current diversion investigations.

Knowledge of computers and relevant software.

Ability to operate work related equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to oversee work of other personnel and maintenance and operation of vehicles and test equipment.

Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public.
