SUMMARY
This is professional work promoting the city (general government) and its products and services. Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its minimal supervisory responsibility, its emphasis on communications and marketing, and its latitude for independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Depending on the area of assignment:
• Develops and implements communications and marketing plans to help support both short- and long-range City objectives.
• Assists in development of plans to support specific communication and marketing objectives, and monitors and measures progress toward goals. Updates as necessary.
• Provides support for City initiatives and events as needed.
• Identifies needs for new and emerging services and identifies opportunities that enhance intermediate and long-term communications and marketing position.
• Works closely with communications and marketing staff as well as other City departments to coordinate communications and marketing objectives. Develop marketing materials across multiple platforms for the purpose of communicating with various target audiences. These platforms can include, but are not limited to, interactive, mass, targeted, broadcast media, websites, special events, and trade shows.
• Plans, assigns, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of support staff, student interns, and volunteers.
• Develops information pieces for, and maintains relationships with, a variety of target audiences, including, but not limited to, the general public, the news media, employees, the financial community, and professional and industry associations.
• Designs and implements or obtains market and customer research to evaluate and quantify results, then adjusts strategies to meet the changing conditions.
• Make recommendations to management regarding strategies that will help the city meet communications and marketing objectives.
• Assists in the development of the department’s annual budget.
• Participates in industry and professional organizations and associations.
• Write business proposals, informational, educational and promotional literature and annual reports on City products and services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in English, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or journalism, or related field, and four (4) years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or journalism. or an associate degree from an accredited college or university or two (2) years of work toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university with major course work in English, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or journalism, and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or journalism.

CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES
A valid United States driver's license is required at the time of appointment. A valid State of Florida Driver's License is required within thirty (30) days of appointment.
