Description

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is looking for an individual to join our team as a Cord Blood Records Specialist in Gainesville, FL. This position is responsible for the filing, organizing and maintaining cord blood donor records, conducting routine communication activities with cord blood registries and assisting with developing and maintaining departmental statistics. This position is also responsible for assisting management in the coordination of projects and for providing high-level administrative support.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform the cord blood record review process and ensure timely review, accuracy and completeness of records in compliance with federal and state privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Perform all job functions and maintain permanent records in accordance with the blood center's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Manage cord blood unit (CBU) files and all related documents by performing data entry in Cord Blood Registry (Emtrax) and maintaining logs, spreadsheets, donor records, CBU records and SOPs
  • Assist in preparation of departmental reports for trending and tracking
  • Participate in quality management activities regarding CBU files
  • Complete exclusion reports/forms for any units deemed unacceptable to list on the national registry
  • Ensure all bankable unit files are reviewed appropriately by the designated personal within the required timeframes
  • Monitor timelines established with each task on an ongoing basis and report to the Cord Blood Operations Manager about any delays in the review process
  • Assist with compiling, reviewing and submitting reports to HRSA and FDA as required
  • Represent and communicate Cord Blood and LifeSouth favorably to the public and to the participating institutions

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license. Must meet and maintain LifeSouth driver's eligibility requirements
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments concurrently
  • Basic computer skills and competence with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to follow moderately complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to interact professionally with all customers, both external and internal
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Previous blood banking, quality assurance or cord blood experience preferred

LifeSouth Cord Blood Bank is a community-based public cord blood bank that collects and stores umbilical cord blood for the purpose of clinical cures and research in the field of stem cell transplantation.
