LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently looking for a highly driven individual with outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to join our Executive Team as Vice President of Operations.

 

This is a senior leadership role who reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for overseeing and driving the operational effectiveness of LifeSouth Community Blood Centers across a multi-state footprint set by executive leadership. In this position you will develop, implement, and lead strategic initiatives to enhance blood donations, blood processing, and blood distribution while ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards. This position is also responsible for maintaining optimal staffing ratios, overseeing training programs, and ensuring continuous operational growth and innovation.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to)

Strategic Planning & Growth:

- Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with the organization’s long-term objectives to grow blood donations, processing, and distribution.

- Identify opportunities to optimize the blood donation process and increase donor participation, retention, and satisfaction.

- Lead initiatives to expand the organization's outreach and visibility within the communities served to enhance donor engagement and increase blood donations.

Oversight of Blood Donation Process:

- Manage the process of blood donor recruitment, retention, and engagement, collaborating with marketing and community relations teams.

- Ensure the efficient collection of blood donations while maintaining high levels of donor safety and experience.

Blood Processing & Distribution:

- Oversee the blood processing within each operation to ensure compliance with industry standards and organizational goals.

- Identify areas where efficiency could be improved through local levels or through the implementation of new resources or technology.

- Coordinate blood product distribution to hospitals, ensuring timely delivery and ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.

- Monitor and optimize inventory levels to avoid shortages while ensuring high-quality standards. Creating strategies to ensure blood is readily available across the organizational footprint. 

Staffing & Training:

- Oversee staffing levels to ensure appropriate ratios in blood collection, processing, and distribution areas.

- Develop and implement continuous training initiatives to ensure employees meet regulatory requirements and stay updated on best practices in blood donation, processing and distribution.

Strategic Oversight:

- Establish district level growth plan, ensuring operations are cost-effective while maintaining high standards of service.

- Analyze operational costs and implement cost-saving measures without compromising safety, quality, or regulatory compliance.

Collaboration & Leadership:

- Provide leadership and direction to District and Regional Leadership, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

- Collaborate with other senior leadership team members to align operational initiatives with broader organizational goals.

- Serve as a key representative for the organization in industry associations, regulatory bodies, and community outreach efforts.

Additional Requirements

- Requires continuous availability after hours for on-call, except when on approved leave (PTO).

- This position works varied hours, including nights and weekends.

- Ability and willingness to travel is essential to this position; travel may include up to 50% of time worked.

- Must have consistent and reliable transportation.

- Attendance is a requirement of this position.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field is required

- Minimum ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in operations management, with at least five (5) years in a senior management role is required

- Proficient in all staffing and management software functions

- Knowledge of modern principles and practices of administration and organization, including general budgeting, accounting, personnel techniques, and management principles and practices

- Ability to manage budgets, resources, and staff to meet operational objectives

- Ability to implement strategic initiatives that drive operational growth and improve performance

- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions

- Valid driver’s license required; must meet and maintain LifeSouth driver’s eligibility requirements

- Experience in healthcare, blood donation, or a related field is preferred

LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank serving more than 150 hospitals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. We are committed to meeting the blood supply needs of hospitals and their patients by providing the highest quality blood components and services. With more than 50 blood donation centers, 55 bloodmobiles and 2,000 blood drives a month across our multi-state footprint, our LifeSouth team is dedicated to making sure the blood is there when you or your family is in need.
