With the help of generous donors and nearly 400 volunteers, Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida granted 425 wishes last year.
Position Summary
The Community Outreach Manager, Gainesville will serve as a front-line fundraiser, establishing a local organizational presence and advancing relationships with individuals and organizations with the capacity or network to make a philanthropic investment in Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida. This individual will be responsible for managing a local fundraising & community engagement committee, as well as a portfolio of individual and corporate gift donors and prospects; moving these prospective donors through the qualification and cultivation processes to successful solicitation; ensuring donors in the portfolio receive appropriate mission-guided stewardship; and collaborating with development colleagues and organization leadership. This job requires a dynamic, motivated, energetic, and personable individual with a go-getter attitude and a drive to meet and exceed budgetary fundraising goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Position Summary

This individual will be responsible for managing a local fundraising & community engagement committee, as well as a portfolio of individual and corporate gift donors and prospects; moving these prospective donors through the qualification and cultivation processes to successful solicitation; ensuring donors in the portfolio receive appropriate mission-guided stewardship; and collaborating with development colleagues and organization leadership. This job requires a dynamic, motivated, energetic, and personable individual with a go-getter attitude and a drive to meet and exceed budgetary fundraising goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the strategic growth and revenue development of the counties in North Central region of the chapter territory, generating a minimum of $200,000 in revenue growth within the region in the first year, with increasing revenue goals upon portfolio maturity.
- Identify, recruit, and lead a fundraising and community engagement committee made up of business leaders and local influencers in the panhandle with a goal of driving awareness and creating/enhancing relationships that advance the mission forward through increased revenue and networks.
- Frequently communicate with all committee members to keep each engaged, motivated, and up-to-date on the status of prospects and goals, acting swiftly on referrals, leads, and support needs.
- Create and manage a portfolio of a minimum of 150+ individual and corporate prospects at various stages of their relationship with the organization, with a comfortability in establishing new relationships with constituents that do not have a current personal relationship.
- Devise and execute individual strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of assigned portfolio with a heavy focus on face-to-face meetings, successfully securing annual fund level gifts and new corporate partnerships.
- Develop and implement relationship-focused projects/initiatives aimed at bringing new donor prospects into the organizations pipeline
- Achieve activity metrics that serve as a roadmap to the revenue goal; meaningful touchpoints, solicitations, and gifts received.
- Support donor recognition activities and events which have a strategic impact on the success of organization-wide priorities
- Manage administrative responsibilities, including timely completion of proposals, pledge and commitment documents, documentation of individual prospect strategies, and evaluation of new prospects; stewardship reports; and general correspondence
- Utilize the features of Salesforce in providing a moves management approach to donors and prospects, continuously summarizing face-to-face visits, outreach, communication, and proposal details within 24 hours of interactions; review records to ensure accurate portfolio data.
- Participate in regular portfolio reviews of progress versus moves management plan & financial projections.
- Assist in engagement with local Wish Alumni in collaboration with the Wish Alumni Manager to steward families that opt in to fundraise, share their testimony, or serve as event ambassadors.
- Assist in creating and planning opportunities for meaningful volunteer recognition throughout the year alongside the Volunteer Manager.
- Steward and create relationships with medical professionals in the area in collaboration with the Medical Outreach Manager.
- Assist in the creation and delivery of content geared for medical constituents in virtual and in-person information sessions throughout the year.
- Partner with the Medical Outreach Manager to seek out opportunities to recognize and show appreciation for medical professionals throughout the year (i.e. Nurses’ Week, Doctors’ Day, etc).
- Identifying and soliciting in-kind and local wish experts while also serving as a representative for local wishes and special events as needed.
- Assist with other duties as assigned

- Able to efficiently develop and coordinate a variety of activities and programs, working efficiently with other staff, volunteers, interns, and donors
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to manage time and adhere to deadlines
- Evidence of strong initiative, self-direction, flexibility, and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Works independently, remotely, and individually while thriving in a results-oriented culture of accountability.
- Excellent written communication skills required - Willingness and ability to perform all other duties as assigned, including weekends and evenings as needed
- Willingness to work outside the standard work hours to participate in community gatherings, external fundraisers and networking events.
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum experience of 3-5 years in nonprofit development with a demonstrated track record of developing donor relationships and leading a volunteer council towards defined objectives
- Demonstrated ability to form and leverage relationships with prospects, donors, and community members, preferably in a role with a heavy focus on increasing local visibility and presence.
- Experience building a portfolio and increasing value over time through donor-centric relationship management approaches
- Experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic (non-event) based gifts, including $5,000+ individual and $5,000+ corporate donations
- Must possess an outgoing and positive personality, collaborative working style, and an enthusiasm for building bridges between and among key stakeholders
- Must be able to clearly articulate the case for supporting Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida (one-on-one and in audiences of all sizes)
- Possess integrity, maturity and ethical awareness; ability to handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.
- A roster of local professionals and individual contacts a plus.
- Must be willing to work remotely and travel within the chapter territory
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office products and donor software (Salesforce preferred)
Working Conditions
This position is a remote regional role located in Gainesville or surrounding area. The position requires the individual to work remotely but also be willing to regularly travel within the surrounding counties of the region (Alachua, Marion, Levy, Bradford, Gilchrist, Columbia, Union). Additionally, the individual must have the ability and willingness to travel throughout the chapter (25-30%), including Northeast and Central Florida. Incumbent must be willing to work some nights/weekends as needed.
