Chamber After Hours
Join us for Chamber After Hours at the newly expanded LifeSouth Community Blood Centers headquarters. This is a football-themed event, so wear your team colors or favorite team shirt. Enjoy food from Celebrations, tours of the new facility and participate in a tuchdown scavenger hunt to win a Gator gift basket prize worth $200.
LifeSouth first opened in Gainesville in 1974 to service four hospitals. Today the organization employs more than 800 people in three states and supplies nearly 100 different medical facilities.
What's new at the LifeSouth headquarters? The original building has been remodeled into a 15,000 square foot two-story office, and a 19,000 square-foot office building has been added with a conference room that can be used by both LifeSouth and the community.
What are some of the cool things that happen at this LifeSouth location? The donor testing lab tests every unit of blood collected by LifeSouth, more than 4,600 samples per week. The LifeSouth IT team is based here, supporting a three-state network, and has created its own software for everything from registering donors to tracking units as they head to hospitals.
LifeCord, Florida's only non-profit cord blood bank is here. More than 3,000 units that have been tested and frozen are stored here and are ready for marrow transplantation anywhere in the world
