Event Description:
Join the Center for Arts, Migration and Entrepreneurship as we present The Citizen, the next film screening in our Migration in Film series!
The Citizen follows Wilson, who, after losing his entire family to war in Africa and making the perilous journey to Europe as a political refugee, settles for a sedate life as a security guard in a Budapest shopping center. Wilson is driven by a quest: to become a model Hungarian citizen and to do so at any cost. In preparing for the next exam, he is helped by Mari, a Hungarian history teacher. Unexpectedly the teacher and her pupil start to develop deep affection towards each other.
This award-winning drama explores complex issues of modern Europe through an unorthodox love story as Wilson tries to find his place in Hungarian society.
We will be joined for a Q&A after the film featuring special guest Istvan Tarrosy, CAME Affiliate Faculty and Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Pecs, Hungary.
This event is free and open to the public!
