About the Presenter:
Karl R. Zawoy is the Director of the Santa Fe College Innovative Product Development Center. For the past 25 years, Karl served in executive roles running startup companies, licensing technology, and helping startups qualify for matching investment. He helped many companies transform early stage inventions into commercial products. He also directed projects for medical device companies including: CD Medical, Johnson & Johnson, Novoste, Biofield, and many others. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from NSU and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UF. He is an inventor on 13 patents and a Registered Technology Transfer Professional. Karl and his wife Carolyn and their family have been part of the Gainesville Community for more than 15 years. His hobbies include “Ham Radio”, making sourdough bread and playing with Caesar, his 95-pound greyhound.

An angel investor is an individual who provides capital for a business start-up, usually in exchange for debt or equity. Angel investors usually support startups when other investors are not prepared to back them. Angels also organize themselves into angel groups or angel networks to share investments, perform due diligence and provide advice to their portfolio companies.
