Event Description:
The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite business owners, employees and the general public to attend “Your Utility Bill: A Conversation with the Chamber,” a special event designed to gather feedback and recommendations regarding both business and residential energy consumption and cost.

Hosted by the Gainesville Chamber, the event will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 5:30pm at the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, located at 120 SE Williston Road, Gainesville, FL 32641. This meeting is free and open to the public.

The 2-hour event will feature remarks from Chamber Board of Directors Chair Mitch Glaeser and City of Gainesville Mayor Ed Braddy.  During the program, attendees will be invited to participate in small group breakout sessions specifically designed to delve more deeply into areas of concern and brainstorm solutions to obstacles faced by businesses and residents alike.

Mayor Braddy will share his thoughts on utility costs and services during the event.

“Regardless of whether you are a business owner, homeowner, or apartment dweller, your utility bill should not be a disincentive to do business or live in Gainesville,” Braddy said.  “Affordability, accountability and openness are core principles that should guide public deliberation on the future of utility services in this great city,” added Braddy.

Gainesville Chamber President & CEO Tim Giuliani agrees, adding “the Chamber represents not only over 1,100 businesses, but the over 70,000 Gainesville area residents they employ, and it is our duty to gain feedback from our entire membership, and those outside of it, to find common ground and satisfaction so our city’s growth is sustainable and beneficial.”

This event is another installment in a series of collaborative community dialogues designed to identify how to make it easier to do business – and live – in the Gainesville region.  In May, the Chamber facilitated a small business growth dialogue with city leaders and issued a report outlining 27 recommendations for the City of Gainesville.

Feedback gathered from the July 17 dialogue event focusing on energy solutions will be used to formulate policy recommendations that will be shared with policymakers and the public.
